Advance your English 4
Getting the tenses right (level A1/B2)

Advance Your English – Getting the tense right

Advance Your English – Getting the tense right

Are you unsure about which English tense to use when? Would you like to have a visual overview of the different tenses and what they are useful for? Do you want to know which tenses are especially important for your work situations, and practise using them?

Methods

This half-day workshop takes place on campus and uses both plenary and small group activities. You will experiment with a hands-on interactive tenses model that visualises the English tenses. You will use it to explore how English time structures work and how German time structures translate into English.

You will then place phrases that you use in your daily work within the model. Finally, you will prioritise tenses for further practice and use ChatGPT to create practice exercises. These will contain the vocabulary and time structures you need in your daily work.

Allocation to groups

The workshop will take place twice. The first workshop is for staff at levels A2 / B1. The second workshop is for staff at levels B2 / C1. The results of a short online language test will be used to allocate participants to these groups.

Please use this link to take the Cambridge General English test when you register for the course:

https://www.cambridgeenglish.org/test-your-english/

You should send your result to Shirley.Roth@hs-rm.de and Weiterbildung-iwib@hs-rm.de.

If you recently sent test results, then you do not need to take the test again.

Requirements and preparation

Please bring your own laptop or let us know that you would like to borrow one. In preparation for the workshop, you should write short descriptions of four typical daily situations (two spoken and two written) and send them to Shirley.Roth@hs-rm.de one week before the workshop begins.
